It's not that …, it's just that … ne demek?
"It's not that …, it's just that …" Türkçede "… değil, sadece …" demektir ve bir reddi ya da çekinceyi karşındakini kırmadan asıl nedeniyle açıklamak için kullanılır. İlk yarıda geçerli olmayan nedeni, ikinci yarıda gerçek nedeni söylersin. Okunuşu "its nat det …, its cast det …." şeklindedir. Örneğin "It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I'm tired." (its nat det ay dount layk it, its cast det aym tayırd) cümlesi "Sevmediğimden değil, sadece yorgunum" anlamına gelir. İki boşluğa da öznesi ve fiili olan tam cümleler gelir. B1 seviyesindeki bu kalıp davetler geri çevrilirken, duygular açıklanırken ve hassas konuşmalarda sık geçer. En yaygın hata "It's not I don't like it, it's just I'm tired." şeklinde söylemektir; doğrusu "It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I'm tired." olur. Türkçedeki "-den değil" yapısında bağlaç görünmez; bu kalıpta iki yerde de "that" düşmez.

Neden: Türkçedeki '-den değil' yapısında bağlaç görünmez; bu kalıpta iki yerde de 'that' düşmez.

Doğru: It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I'm tired.
Neden: 'like' duygu fiili; sürekli zaman almaz: 'I don't like it'.
Yanlış: It's not that I'm angry, but it's just that I'm disappointed.
Doğru: It's not that I'm angry, it's just that I'm disappointed.
Neden: 'it's just that' zaten zıtlık verir; araya 'but' eklenmez.
